She was telling the truth, the leaked conversation between Kanye West and Taylor Swift (2024)

The rapper and the singer have had a fight over the years that seems to have no end. After insulting her in a song in 2016, West claimed that the singer had agreed with the phrase and her wife shared a video that proved it.

However, the full recording came out a couple of days ago and she proved that Swift wasn't lying when she said she didn't know the full lyrics to West's single.

The strange, changing and controversial dispute between Kanye West and Taylor Swift once again took a turn after the full video of the conversation they had in 2016 was leaked and which caused great controversy at the time.

At that time, West had released the song “Famous” which included the line: “I feel like Taylor and I could still have s-x/Why? I made that bitch famous.” The rapper claimed that he had called Swift and that she was not bothered by the phrase, while Swift denied it.

The conversation between the two had been recorded and Kim Kardashian shared the video. But she only published an edited part. The new leaked version - more than 20 minutes long - shows that Swift did not lie when she said that West had never warned her that he would insult her.

The recording shows West - along with producer Rick Rubin - calling Swift and commenting on the song. It is even heard that the singer advised him to change the phrase - which originally said that Swift “owed” s-x to West.

Although he mentions that he could say later in the single that "it made her famous" - to which Swift responds that before the incident, she had already sold 7 million records -, at no point does West mention the insult to the singer . Swift always claimed that it was the word "bitch" that bothered her.

With a feud of more than a decade - which includes a reconciliation and a stab in the back - the leak is another chapter in the conflictive relationship between the musicians.

It all started at the 2009 MTV VMAS, when a young Taylor Swift - who at the time was 19 years old and sang country - won the award for Best Female Video for "You belong with me."

Kanye West came on stage, took the microphone and said, "Taylor, I'm so happy for you and I'm going to let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time! time!".

After the incident, the artists remained distant for years. Although West initially apologized, he later retracted his statement and said he was not sorry.

However, a kind of reconciliation came six years later, when they were seen sharing at the Grammy ceremony. Confirmation came where it began: at the 2015 VMAS. There, Swift presented West with the Video Vanguard Award. The next day the singer posted a photo of herself with the flowers that the rapper had sent her. Everything seemed to have been left in the past.

Until West shared his seventh studio album in February 2016: The life of Pablo. In the song “Famous” a controversial phrase caught the world's attention: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have s-x/ Why? I made that bitch famous.”

West assured that the artist had heard the phrase and had not been bothered. Swift's representatives denied this, saying that he had contacted her to promote her album.

Days after the release, Swift won Album of the Year at the 1989 Grammys. In her speech, the singer said: "There are going to be people along the way who are going to try to cheapen your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame".

While West continued to defend himself, Kim Kardashian - his wife - included herself in the dispute and assured that there was a recording with Swift's approval. The rapper released the music video for "Famous" which continued to fuel controversy after he showed a wax version of Swift naked in bed with West.

Kardashian eventually shared a 3-minute cut version of the conversation via Snapchat. There West is heard saying the first phrase to Swift and she responding that it was like a compliment. Social networks began to attack the singer, "cancelling her" and claiming that she was a snake. Swift defended herself by saying that she hadn't heard West calling her a bitch.

However, nothing Swift said changed the situation and social networks had a party with what they called the "end" of the singer's career. Even a mural that said "In memory of Taylor Swift 1989-2016" went viral.
