My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (2024)

Published: by Tamara Kelly · 23 Comments

Just because we now have the internet, it doesn't mean we're done with crochetmagazines. Whether they come to your mailbox or your inbox, crochet magazines are happy mail - and there are seven of them that I'm highlighting here on Moogly!

My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (1) Disclaimer: This post includes affiliate links.

As a crocheter, I love browsing through crochet magazines - and as adesigner, I love finding names I know attached to the patterns (including, when I'm lucky, my own)!I subscribe to several, and pick others up at the craft stores whenever I get the chance.

What I love the mostabout crochet magazines is the variety - every publication has its own style, and every issue has a new collection of patterns to explore. And something I've come to appreciate more the longer I crochet is the in-depth articles about techniques, or even travel "blogs" about crochet adventures!

Here is a peek at my 7 favorite crochet magazines - and what I love about each!

My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (2)

  1. Crochet! - click here to subscribe: This is one of the first crochet magazines I ever subscribed to - and I still do! Nowadays I get it as a member of the Crochet Guild of America, but I'd be subscribing regardless. It's current, accessible, and is always filled with patterns at a mix of skill levels - and that includes the many wearables! See what's in the Summer 2017 issue below! My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (3)
  2. Crochet World - click here to subscribe: I suspect that Crochet World may be one of the oldest continuously published US crochet magazines on newsstands right now, but I haven't been able to confirm it! This magazine has staying powerand has outlasted many competitors. You'll always find lovely home decor projects in this one, and it might be the best bet for thread crochet too. A mix of projects for all ages to enjoy! My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (4)
  3. Love of Crochet - click here to subscribe: I discovered Love of Crochet late (it's my newest subscription!), but I'm *am* loving it! It's got a playful vibe and a great mix of wearables as well as home decor. It's approachable, trendy, and full of fast makes! You can see the projects in the Summer 2017 issue all on the back inside cover here too - love that so many of these magazines do that!My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (5)
  4. Interweave Crochet - click here to subscribe: I subscribe to Interweave Crochet via Amazon (love the notification when my subscription is about to run out) for their upscale crochet, high fashion garments, and items that look as at home on a runway as they do on your hook. Ifyou love crocheting garments most of all, then this one is a must have! You can see all the projects in the Spring 2017 issue below! My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (6)
  5. Simply Crochet - click here to subscribe: This UK magazine always catches my eye at my local JoAnn! Bright, happy, very modern, and with bonuses too - you can see the latest issue came with a whole extra magazine of Amigurumi! Its always exciting and fun peeking inside this one, which I think you can tell from the Table of Contents! My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (7)
  6. I Like Crochet - click here to subscribe: I've been honored to have a few designs featured in I Like Crochet in the past, and I'm excited to say there are more to come (though that's all I'm allowed to say for now!). This magazine is currently online only, but each issue so far has featured 30 patterns, or close to it, which makes it an amazing deal! And since it's online, you know they've got patterns by many of your favorite blogging designers too! You can see just 6 of the June issue's patterns below (more at the subscription link)! My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (8)
  7. Inside Crochet - clickhere to subscribe: This UK based magazine can be hard to find here in the states, but it's worth keeping an eye out for it! I've got a copy on it's way to me right now, because I was featured in issue 89! I haven't found a local source for it yet, but I've loved the peeks inside I've gotten so far, including the patterns below! My Favorite Crochet Magazines! (9)

You're a lady after my own heart! I love crochet magazines! You have mentioned some of my favourites but I also like US online Happily Hooked magazine. In the UK other magazines I love, though I'm not sure how available they are in the US, include LGC Knitting and Crochet Magazine, Crochet Now, and Love Crochet (which is also by Simply Crochet magazine).

I will have to look for those, thank you Heather!

Hi Tamara, Being in the UK I often pick up either Simply Crochet or Inside Crochet (or both if the patterns are irresistible!). The other publication I regularly get is Interweave Crochet as a download as they have consistently had gorgeous garments in sizes that range from petite to plus. When I got back into crochet some 7 or 8 years ago the magazine choice wasn't as good as now and patterns in them stopped at a UK 16/18 so to be able to get interweave magazines and downloads was a huge bonus. The range is much better now but I still love Interweave. It's thanks to that that I am bilingual in crochet and can happily jump from projects in UK terms to US terms! The prevalence of magazine apps mean it's becoming much easier to find Crochet (and other crafting mags) from around the world. Great if you want to find a pattern for a garment that very few people in your country will have made for themselves! Happy hooking everyone, wherever you are in the world 🙂

I follow all Of Hours and subscribe to slot of them but I also am following Crochet Now. It's fairly new but they've had some great patterns and Jane Crowfoot CAL was lovely.

New ones for me to check out, thank you!

I am also a big fan of Crochet Now! The patterns are contemporary, usually pretty easy and fun. The magazine comes out of the UK though so it is pricey & harder to find in Canada. I opt for the app with instant downloads of current & back issues.

P.S. There is also an app for Simply Crochet which is pretty fun too.

I LOVE Duplet crochet, from (I believe) Romania.
Not in English, but all patterns are charted. I just drool over the fabulous designs!

Hi Tamara! My absolute favorite crochet magazine is Simply Crochet. I love it! I buy every issue, despite the high price here in the USA.

Is the Simply Crochet in US terms or UK? Thanks!

      UK terms, generally. 🙂

I love all of them! What I really miss in the past twenty year is the decrease in the publications available. The magazine sections at numerous stores used to carry the monthly ones and the annual and semi-annual afghan ones--I really looked forward to those. Also, there used to be Crochet Today--that was a good one. You can find it on the Internet Archives. Thankfully, I rarely threw away those I collected over the years and I have three big boxes of old crochet magazines--it is always fun to go through them and find out that some of them are still good patterns for today and what was old is often new again!

Im just learning, what's a good magazine to start with?

Hi Rita! For a beginner I'd recommend Crochet! 🙂 The patterns are typically a little more approachable than Interweave, and the yarns used are easy to find!

I purchased the April, 2019 edition of Crochet Home in a local craft store. It is a lovely magazine with a good variety of modern, up to date patterns. I would like to have a subscription to this magazine

A really old magazine is Workbasket. I had ones handed to me by my grandmother (im 64). So, a long time ago, however, I'm a designer as well (unpublished). I lost everything in a fire in 2010. Everything i designed, all magazines...everything. Including things i had made for myself and numerous things i was working on for others. I would really like to find some patterns i remember from Workbasket.

Oh no! Workbasket is one of those I never got to see, but it sounds like it was so wonderful, I've heard so many people speak of it. I'm so sorry to hear about the fire, I can only imagine! ♥

I have been a loyal fan of Interweave Crochet ever since I found it some years ago. I never get rid of my crochet library. I really enjoy the challenging patterns which look like fashion runway designs. I am sad that now they are going all digital online. I want the magazine to come as a happy surprise in the mailbox. I have also been a faithful collector of Crochet! Magazine from when it began. I ordered all back issues. I miss Crochet Today. It was such a friendly, helpful, loving type magazine and suddenly it was gone!
I love crochet itself so much I spend hours on it daily. My grandmother from Germany was a crochet and I feel a connection to her when I crochet. I have so much yarn that I had a "yarn wall" with storage cubbies like a yarn store installed in my Sewing Room. It is floor to ceiling but still cannot accommodate all the yarn I have collected. I even send "care packages" to my girlfriend in Pennsylvania to use up yarn I have kept for too many years. I am crazy about planning all my next projects and hope I have time enough left here on Earth to make all the projects I am planning. I am 82 now but plan to be around at least 10 more years. On my personal bank checks I have a motto inscribed above the signature line: "Keep calm and carry yarn" ALWAYS!

♥ Thank you so much for sharing that, Sharon! I agree, I like the paper copies and have a shelf of them too!
