So I’ve had these Ikea Wood Bowls for quite some time now almost six years to be exact.

I’ve used them a lot but I’ve noticed in the last two years I haven’t touched them at all which meant I needed to donate it or repurpose it as I don’t like to pile things which don’t serve any purpose.

I’ve been wanting to buy one of those cute Giant Anthropologie Inspired Candles in a Bowl or in those big Cement Pots but couldn’t justify the price which is why we are here today to make our own without spending a dime.

If you want to make a project like this but do not have a wooden bowl on hand then here is a list of different containers you can use to make candles:

  1. Glass Jars: Mason jars, recycled food jars, or other glass containers are popular choices. They allow you to see the candle’s color and texture.
  2. Metal Tins: Tin containers are often used for travel or container candles. They come in various shapes and sizes.
  3. Ceramic Mugs or Cups: Repurpose old ceramic mugs or cups to create unique candles. The heat-resistant nature of ceramic makes it suitable.
  4. Teacups: Vintage or decorative teacups can add a touch of elegance to your candles.
  5. Terracotta Pots: Small terracotta pots can serve as rustic and earthy candle containers.
  6. Concrete Containers: Modern and industrial, concrete containers provide a contemporary look for candles.
  7. Wooden Boxes: For a natural and rustic feel, wooden boxes can be used as candle containers.
  8. Coconut Shells: Hollowed-out coconut shells can make interesting and eco-friendly candle containers.
  9. Silicone Molds: Create custom-shaped candles using silicone molds. These can come in various designs, from geometric shapes to animals.
  10. Candle Tins with Clear Lids: Tins with clear lids allow for easy visibility of the candle and can be used for packaging or gifting.
  11. Candle Holders: Use decorative candle holders made of metal, glass, or other materials for a stylish touch.
  12. Candy or Cookie Tins: Repurpose old tins from candies or cookies for a vintage look.
  13. Sea Shells: Small shells can be used for beach-themed candles, adding a coastal vibe.
  14. Hollowed-out Fruit: Citrus fruits like oranges or grapefruits can be hollowed out and used as natural candle containers.
  15. Pumpkins or Gourds: During the fall season, small pumpkins or gourds can be carved out to hold candles.
  16. Wine Glasses: Upside-down wine glasses can create a unique and elegant candle holder.
  17. Metal Goblets or Goblet Holders: Repurpose metal goblets or holders for a medieval or vintage aesthetic.
  18. Test Tubes: Small glass or plastic test tubes can be used for slender and modern candles.
  19. Bamboo Shoots: Hollowed-out bamboo shoots can be used for tall, slender candles.
  20. Terra Cotta Plant Pots: Small plant pots provide a simple and versatile option for candle containers.

When choosing a container, consider the size, shape, and style you desire, as well as the intended use of the candle. Experimenting with different containers can lead to unique and personalized creations.

These were the candles I ended up collecting from all over my place.

Different colors and scents were bought several years ago.

Since candles are generally poured in bottles or jars which are flame and heat resistant or so I assume which is why I them in a large saucepan on a medium heat and let all of them melt.

It took almost 40 minutes for the candles to completely melt which I didn’t expect but it did take some time.

So for the wick part of the candle what I did was reuse the wicks already in the candle.

You could of course use some fresh wicks that I have listed in my materials section above.

Using a fork I took out the wicks from the melted candles carefully and then using some glue or hot glue gun attached it to the base of the wooden bowl.

You could attach one wick or two or three like I did. Keep in mind these bowl candles I was making was mostly for decoration purposes.

When the wicks are in place gently remove the melted candle Jars from the saucepan using an oven mitt as the melted candle wax is really hot.

Pour the liquid wax into the wooden bowl and let it firm up.

So I decided I wanted to add some design to the plain wooden bowls, give it a boho-chic Anthropologie Inspired Design which is where these Gold stickers come in the picture, in different shapes and sizes.

I chose to keep some of them as complete circles and some of them I cut in half which I was going to attach onto the side of the bowls.

For the rim of the bowl, it is optional but I went around with a gold marker just to give it a finished look.

And there you have it.
