Bubble Solution Recipe (1)

I am pretty pumped about today’s post because homemade bubbles have given me so much peace over the last week! For how cheap and easy this homemade bubble solution is to make, I am seriously wishing I had whipped some up sooner!

Before we get to the story on this easy bubble recipe, if you are looking for other fun activities to do with your kids try our awesome homemade play dough, or making ice cream in a bag!

Homemade Bubbles

My youngest son is currently obsessed with bubbles. The screen saver on my computer is bubbles and every time it comes on he dances around and says “bubble!” Naturally, he also loves blowing bubbles. The issue is, he is a very independent 2 year old who wants to do everything BY HIMSELF thank you very much. As you can imagine, we have spilled 10 million jumbo jars of bubbles from Walmart. Okay fine I exaggerate.. 10 thousand. Okay, okay. Maybe just 10.. but I am still totally sick of running to the store for bubble solution because it keeps him entertained and I can’t resist his little “bubbles? Momma, bubbles??”

I realize store bought bubbles are not expensive, but making them yourself is not just more frugal, it is more convenient. It makes a big batch and I had everything I needed in my pantry, bonus! Also, how cute would these be for party favors?? I think I might stock up on plastic (aka: toddler friendly) containers and give them as favors for the kids at Liam's birthday in a few months.

  1. Top Left - Gather your ingredients! All you need is hot water, corn syrup, and liquid dish washing soap!
  2. Top Right - Gather your supplies! I like to use a gallon container to store our bubbles in so I went ahead and mixed them right in there. If you have other containers you want to store them in get them clean and ready, and go ahead and use a large bowl to mix your bubbles in.
  3. Bottom Left - Add all your ingredients together.
  4. Bottom Right - Mix well to combine.

Instructions:

  • In a large container, mix water and liquid dish soap until combined.
  • Add glycerin to the mixture and stir well.
  • Slowly sprinkle guar gum or xanthan gum into the mixture while stirring continuously to prevent clumping.
  • Let the solution sit for at least 24 hoursbefore using to allow the guar gum or xanthan gum to thicken the solution.
  • Use a bubble wand to create bubbles with this solution. The thickened solution should result in bubbles that are more resistant to popping.
