Of Nashville, TN. Died May 27, 1999 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of forty seven years, John J. Franks, M.D.; her mother-inlaw, Lila E. Franks; son, John A.

Franks, his wife Pamela and grandchildren, John J. and Alison Jean; son, William T. Franks; daughter, Margaret L. Jimenez and husband James; daughter, Elizabeth E. Anderson and husband Donald; many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryne E. Franks. She grew up in a closely knit extended family in rural lowa, graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines and practiced her profession in Des Moines and in Denver, Colorado. After marriage she devoted herself to her family and to private acts of friendship and charity. She served for many years as a Faculty Wive's Club volunteer at the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver and later as a volunteer at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

She took a keen interest in children's causes and in the preservation of family farms and the environment. She shared her love of music with family and friends. Her cheerful, warm disposition and marvelous sense of humor always marked her presence. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 1, 1999, 6:30 p.m. at Benton Chapel on the campus of Vanderbilt University.

Funeral services will be held in Denver followed by Interment in a small, mountain cemetery near Como, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Liver Research Fund in the Division of Gastroenterology, Vanderbilt University Medical School, Nashville, TN 37232-2279. 1999 at home of complications from emphysema. He was born May 6, 1925 in Springfield, IL. Son of the late Roy and Maude Piper. He was preceded in death by brothers, Keith (Kathy) Piper of Springfield, IL. and Howard 'Jack' (Virginia) Piper of W.

St. Paul, MN. A World War Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he was injured on Iwo Jima and received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and numerous other medals. A truck driver for six decades, he most recently drove for Federal Copper and Aluminum (formerly Lead Supplies) in College Grove and Pulaksi, TN. and retired from Lee Apparel in Holly Pond, having received numerous safety and longevity awards.

He was a Charter Member of VFW Post 11122 in Chapel Hill, DAV and Purple Heart Association. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of forty nine years, Faydene Adkins Piper (they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 2, 1999); sons, Bill Roy (Lesa) Piper of Franklin, TN. and Perry (Julie) Piper of Signal Mountain, daughters, Susie Piper (Jim McGowan) of Nunnelly, TN. and Sharon 'Bunky' (Kenneth) Elmore of Chapel Hill, three grandsons, Ben Piper of Chapel Hill, Bill Reid Piper of Franklin, TN. and Britt Elmore of Chapel Hill, four granddaughters, Natalie D.

and Leigh A. Piper both of Franklin, Brianda and Piper Elmore both of Chapel Hill, two brothers, Ray and Chuck (Dot) Cash both of Springfield, three nephews, Herb Piper of St. Paul, Roger Piper of Apple Valley, MN. and Jeff Cash of Tulsa, three nieces, Pam Strode of Mattoon, Patti Schwarz of Hastings, MN. and Denise Hlad of Chicago, a host of cousins, in-laws, other relatives and devoted friends.

He was also preceded in death by a niece, Juanita Piper Person; a nephew, Jimmy Cash. Remains rest at Lawrence Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 from 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday, June 2, 1999 from 1-3 p.m. with a service to follow. Sabilla was born in Asheville, N.C. in 1909, the daughter of William Tracy and Dolly Jackson Huffstetler. She resided in Nashville since 1944, first a Member of West End Methodist Church, then Belmont Methodist Church, and for the last thirty years, Christ Episcopal.

She lived in the Hillsboro Village area since 1950 and relocated to the Leah Rose Residence in 1991. Sabilla is survived by her daughter, Dolly Jane Prenzel of Charlottesville, Virginia; son, Wallace Tracy Prenzel of Nashville; several devoted nephews and their families, including Lewis and Wanda Bryan of Clarksville, Jerry and Sonia Bryan of Atlanta, Steve Ihde of San Francisco and James Ihde of San Jose; many friends, including Mary Raiser of the Leah Rose Residence, Genevive Tribke, Juanita Griggs, Mary and Wallace Mitchell, Dorothy Yard, Alice Merritt and Ida Louise Cromwell all of Nashville, Marietta Neyland of Asheville. Sabilla was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace. John Prenzel (1897-1972), originally of Columbia; five sisters and one brother, including Mrs. Clara Bryan and Mrs.

Belle Wallen both of Nashville. Sabilla worked for Southern Bell as a long distance operator and service observer for thirty years, beginning in Asheville 1925 and retiring in 1960. She served Southern Bell and the nation in the port cities of Charleston and Miami during World War I1. Following her retirement, she worked at McClure's in Hillsboro Village in piece goods on a part time basis. Since 1954, Sabilla and Wallace worked tirelessly with other families in Middle Tennessee to expand options for individuals with mental retardation and actively campaigned for high quality public education for all persons with mental and physical disabilities.

She was instrumental in the establishment of the Davidson County Association for Retarded Children, subsequently the ARC of Nashville and Davidson County, selling special license tags every year to raise money for the DCARC. She also worked with others to fund and build the Rochelle Center and was a long term Member of its Parent Guardian Association. Sabilla supported and visited the residents of the Clover Bottom Home in the 1970's and 80's and assisted them with great compassion. An expert seamstress, she contributed many hand made items to charity fairs to benefit those with mental retardation. She was also devoted to many elderly people in her extended family and in the community.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 1999 at Mt. Olivet Funeral Home with Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 10 a.m.

Rev. John Colett, Belmont Methodist Church, will officiate. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the Staff of Alive Hospice and Progress Inc. for their support over the past months, and to the Staff at the Belcourt Terrace Nursing Home for their compassionate and devoted service during Sabilla's stay.
