That delicious spiced pumpkin flavor is easier to make at home than you think! Best of all, the main ingredients are likely already in your pantry and ready to use!

I don't typically start my fall baking until the leaves have fallen (that's the Minnesotan in me trying to stave off winter for as long as possible)! My friends in warmer climates, however, have no problem anticipating the arrival of fall and all of the spectacular flavors that come along with that season.

My base recipe uses the core five ingredients that are typically found, in some variation of quantities, in most of your commercially available pumpkin spice blends. If you have them on hand, the optional added spices can take this easy homemade spice mix from great to AMAZING!

  • Cinnamon - 3 tablespoons of ground cinnamon.
  • Ginger - 2 teaspoons of ground ginger.
  • Nutmeg - 2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg.
  • Allspice - 1 teaspoon of ground allspice.
  • Cloves - 1 teaspoon of ground cloves or a ground clove substitute.
  • Orange Peel (optional) - 1 teaspoon of orange peel.
  • Mace (optional) - Β½ teaspoon of mace.
  • Cardamom (optional) - Β½ teaspoon of ground cardamom or a ground cardamom substitute.

I strongly recommend using the optional ingredients to get the best flavor possible. All you'll need for this easy recipe is a mixing bowl!

This recipe will make 5 tablespoons of the most perfect pumpkin pie spice you've ever had! If you do a lot of fall-time baking, double the batch!

Step 1: Combine. In a small mixing bowl, combine 3 tablespoons (44grams) of ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons (10 grams) each of ground ginger and ground nutmeg, 1 teaspoon (5 grams) each of ground allspice, ground cloves, and orange peel, and Β½ teaspoon (2 grams) each of mace and ground cardamom.

Step 2: Use or store. Use right away in your recipe or store in an airtight spice container for later.
