I definitely had my brush with morning sickness

I had mild morning sickness with my first child, and more intense symptoms with my second. And while I never threw up, I certainly had very queasy moments and a general YUCK feeling until about week 13.

I would have done anything to make itgo away!

SoI researched and tinkered with a recipe designed to give usthe nutrients we need to help ease morning sickness.

(Note that this recipe would also work well for someone who is recovering from the flu, stomach bug, intense workout, a wild night out on the town, or just the doldrums to their morning breakfast routine.)

Now here’s the science behind these morning sickness remedy ingredients

The Morning Sickness Remedy is made up of coconut water, banana, almonds, ginger, oatmeal, gelatin, and honey.

Let’s break down each ingredient, shall we?

Coconut water

Coconut water has the five electrolytes that your body needs: potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorous, and calcium (Gatorade has only two). Interesting to note, coconut water is so similar to our blood that it has been used intravenously when conventional IV fluids are unavailable. Morning sickness can sometimes be exacerbated bydehydration. Coconut water is the perfect antidote and serves as a powerful rehydrator.

Banana

Athletes love bananas because they’re packed with potassium – and that’s the same reason why they make a star appearance in our elixir. Bananas also contain a balanced mixture of fructose and glucose, which will help restore glycogen levels.

Ginger Root

For centuries, people have used ginger to combat seasickness and nausea. So it’s a key player here. Ginger also aids in digestion and calms the stomach.

Almonds

Apparently, Native Americans used almonds before drinking to prevent hangovers, so they may help keepmorning sickness at bay too. Also, almonds arehigh in Vitamin E and fats that support the liver. Theyalso haveprotein, which helps balance blood sugar and promotes satiety.

Oatmeal

This breakfast staple contains plenty of nutrients and also helps neutralize acidity in the body. Oats are a complex carbohydrate that burn slowly in the body, so your blood sugar levels will stay stable.

Gelatin

Gelatin binds to water and helps food move through the digestive tract, improving digestion. It also coats and can heal the stomach and intestinal lining. Oh yes, it contains satisfying protein too.

Honey

Honeycontains potassium, just like bananas. It also contains antibacterial properties and is full of enzymes, all of which will help you feel better in a hurry.

Sea Salt

Sea salt is high in minerals, particularly sodium, which helps calm the nerves and reduce adrenaline levels.

Extra Credit: Bifidus Powder

Bifidus is a good bacteria that lives in our small intestine and helps with digestion. Bring it!

However, if symptoms persist or get really severe

Morning sickness can be a pain, and definitely throw a wet and nauseous towel over your day, but it usually not crippling. If your symptoms seem unusually severe, talk to your medical care provider. There’s a more serious condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum that sometimes requires more specialized treatment.
