Latin Grammys 2019: The Complete Winners List (2024)

Music

Top winners of the night include Rosalía, Alejandro Sanz, Camila Cabello, Pedro Capó, Bad Bunny and Juan Luis Guerra

The Latin Recording Academy kicked off its 20th Annual Latin Grammy Awards on Thursday evening, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. An international celebration of music from Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula, it is the only peer-presented Latin music accolade.

Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía was the top winner in this year’s show. Her one-off single with J Balvin and El Guincho, “Con Altura” won Best Urban Song; meanwhile, her landmark 2018 album El Mal Querer scored accolades for Album of the Year, Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album and Best Recording Package.

Together Cuban-American star Camila Cabello and Spanish pop icon Alejandro Sanz were awarded with Record of the Year and Best Pop Song for their 2019 collaboration, “Mi Persona Favorita.” (Cabello was not present.)

Dominican bachata legend Juan Luis Guerra won Best Contemporary/Tropical Fusion Album for his 2019 album Literal, plus Best Tropical Song for lead single, “Kitipun.”

Pedro Capó won Song of the Year for his laid-back reggaeton hit, “Calma”; his remix with Farruko, won Best Urban Fusion Performance. Together they performed their song onstage, along with “Calma (Alicia Remix)” co-star Alicia Keys. The performance also featured R&B singer Miguel, who promoted a snippet of his new English-language duet with Keys, “Show Me Love.”

Chilean singer Mon Laferte won Best Alternative Album for her 2018 opus, Norma. During her acceptance speech, she wore a green scarf — a symbol of solidarity with the Latin American reproductive freedom movement — and read a chilling poem from an anonymous friend, dedicated to those resisting government repression in Chile. “Chile hurts me inside,” she read. “You bleed through my every vein/Every chain weighs on me/That imprisons you.” On the red carpet she also bared her chest, on which she wrote in black marker, “In Chile they torture and kill.”

Bad Bunny‘s 2018 album X 100pre was named Best Urban Music Album. The Puerto Rican singer notably dodged the Latin Grammys boycott — as called for by J Balvin and Daddy Yankee, his frequent collaborators. “Reggaeton is a global genre,” said Bad Bunny between bleeps on the broadcast. “To all the musicians who are making reggaeton, let’s put some more effort into it and bring something new to the people!”
