Bryan Kohberger's legal team has claimed that cell phone data shows their client was miles away from the crime scene in new alibi filings.

Kohberger, 29 is accused of breaking into the Moscow home of four University of Idaho students and brutally murdering them while they slept.

Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were discovered covered in stab wounds in the early hours of November 13, 2022 by the women's two surviving roommates.

The suspected killer's lawyers, however, have claimed cellphone data shows Kohberger was nowhere near the crime scene when the four students were killed.

Newly filed court documents read: "Mr. Kohberger was out driving in the early morning hours of Nov. 13, 2022; as he often did to hike and run and/or see the moon and stars.

"He drove throughout the area south of Pullman, Washington, west of Moscow, Idaho including Wawawai Park.”

Pullman is located approximately 10 miles from Moscow and Wawawai Park is a 40-minute drive from the crime scene.

The defense claimed Kohberger had been forced to greatly reduce the time he spent hiking and running because of the growing pressure of his academic agenda.

They added the criminology student ultimately resorted to pursuing his outdoor hobbies during the night.

The court filing shows Kohberger's legal team added a cell phone data expert to their list of witnesses to assess the information collected from cell towers near the Moscow rental home where Goncalves, Mogen, Kernodle and Chapin were killed.

The defense claimed the witness will testify that the data showed "Kohberger’s mobile device was south of Pullman, Washington and west of Moscow, Idaho on November 13, 2022; that Bryan Kohberger’s mobile device did not travel east on the Moscow-Pullman Highway in the early morning hours of November 13th, and thus could not be the vehicle captured on video along the Moscow-Pullman highway near Floyd’s Cannabis shop."

Prosecutors maintained Kohberger's white Hyundai Elantra was the vehicle caught on camera passing close to the four victims's home at least four times the morning their bodies were found.

Kohberger's lawyers, however, claimed to have additional details on his whereabouts the night of the murder – but have threatened to withhold the information until prosecutors share more discovery.

The filing added: "If not disclosed, [cell phone tower expert Sly Ray]’s testimony will also reveal that critical exculpatory evidence, further corroborating Mr. Kohberger’s alibi, was either not preserved or has been withheld.”

Kohberger was arrested after a seven-week manhunt while at his parents's home in Pennsylvania. At the time, he was enrolled as a PhD student at the University of Washington in Pullman.

Kohberger's lawyers have already attempted to have the case thrown out citing insufficient evidence, and have filed multiple motions to postpone the start of the trial.

A judge will consider a request for a change of venue for the proceedings and the motion to compel the release of discovery at a hearing on May 14.
