A couple months ago, I posted my recipe for Honey Jeow Glazed Cashews.

I'd come up with the recipe after accidentally stumbling upon Jeow Hot Sauce, a local company.

The description of their sauce sounded amazing, so I ordered some... and it was delivered to my door just a couple hours later!

It was AMAZING. Potent and spicy - It's far more spicy than sriracha, and far more complex. It has a few different kinds of peppers, fish sauce, mushroom powder, lime, and more. There's a roasty / almost smokey quality to it, and ... yeah.

Really, really tasty stuff.

Assuming nothing has changed in 2 months: To get your own jar of Jeow, you'll have to message the company on any of their social media accounts: Instagram, or Facebook, and they'll give you details on shipping. HIGHLY recommend doing so!

To be clear: I don't have any sort of arrangement with them to disclose, I'm just completely in love with this stuff and figure everyone should try it.

Honey Jeow Glazed Wings

Anyway.

As a wings lover, I've been meaning to develop a Jeow glaze for wings.

Because of how wonderfully it worked with honey for those cashews, I kept it pretty simple for the wings, to really let the Jeow flavours shine: Just butter, honey, and Jeow. That's it - it doesn't need anything else!

The Honey Jeow Glazed Wings sauce whips up in just a few minutes.

Not a fan of glazed wings?

The sauce would also be great on chicken fingers, or as a dip for any number of appetizer type foods. Think "Thai Sweet Chili Sauce", but WAY more punch.

Hrmm... I'll have to try it on my Crab Rangoon Pizza, now that I think about it...

Air Frying

Back in the early days of these ... interesting ... times, we decided to buy an Air Fryer. I hadn't looked into them, neither one of us did a ton of research, to be honest.

Neither one of us is really into fried food, after all.

The thing is, a LOT of the things that we stocked up on as easy, fairly long freezer life meals were things that could potentially be improved by an air fryer, from what little we knew of them.

We looked them up on Canadian Tire, saw what few they actually had in stock, did a quick google of reviews, and bought one of the cheapest models. (We had no idea if we'd like it, so didn't want to splurge TOO much!).

This was also back when no one was allowed to actually go into the stores, so it felt a bit odd making a biggish investment, without even being able to look at the box!

The Instant Vortex 4-in-1 Air Fryer, 6 Quart by Instant Pot is the Air Fryer we purchased, and we love it. Hands down, it was probably one of the top 3 purchases we've made this year - we use it all the time!

We have always like the texture of deep fried foods, but not all that grease - it's wild how much this replicates actual deep fried texture when it comes to things like wings, chicken fingers, and fries.

Cooking with Our Air Fryer

Air fryer fries are about a million times better than baked fries, and I honestly prefer them to deep fried. Tater Tots are amazing in the air fryer, and everything everyone has said about reheating cold pizza in it is bang on.

We're definitely going to have to try my Smoked French Fries in it - I'm assuming the flavour would be even better, as there's no oil to siphon the flavour out of the potatoes and mute it a bit.

Also: Frozen perogies. Deep Fried Perogies were a skating rink delicacy, growing up... I bet they'd be good in the Air Fryer. Yes. (Update: They ARE! Check out my post on How to Cook Perogies in an Air Fryer!)

If I had my time back, I may have ordered this one - a size bigger - but again... we had no idea how much we'd use it, so we weren't really willing to pay more or sacrifice more counter space for it!

Anyway, I got a bit off track there with my love letter to our Air Fryer. Whoops!

Cooking wings in an air fryer is a game changer for us - they turn out perfectly crispy, while staying juicy inside... with none of the hassle or mess of deep fat frying.

However you choose to cook your wings - deep fried, air fried, or baked - this Honey Jeow Glaze is a definite winner!

Equipment

  • Deep Fryer

  • Air Fryer

  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Raw chicken wings
  • Salt
  • ½ cup Unsalted Butter
  • cup Honey
  • 2-3 tablespoon Jeow Sauce

Instructions

  • Sprinkle chicken generously with salt, allow to air dry while preparing glaze.

  • In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Add honey and Jeow sauce, whisk well to combine. Set aside.

For Deep Fried Wings:

  • Heat oil 375 degrees F. You can use a deep fryer, or a heavy pan. If not using a deep fryer, use a deep, heavy pot, filled to at least 3″ deep.

  • Fry chicken wings in batches of about a dozen pieces each – allowing oil to come back up to temperature between each batch – until golden brown. (About 10-15 minutes per batch).

  • Transfer fried wings to a large bowl, toss with glaze, and serve hot!

For Baked Wings:

  • Preheat oven to 400 F, line a baking sheet with parchment paper

  • Arrange wings on baking sheet, bake until crispy, golden, and cooked through - about 45 minutes.

  • Once fully cooked, transfer wings to a large bowl, toss with glaze, and serve hot!

For Air Fryer Wings (Pictured)

  • Preheat Air Fryer to 380 F.

  • Spread wings out in a single layer, or per your air fryer's instructions

  • Cook for 22 minutes, flipping them after about 15 minutes.

  • At 22 minutes, check for doneness. They should be golden, crispy, and cooked all the way through. If they're not, put them on for another few minutes.

  • Once fully cooked, transfer wings to a large bowl, toss with glaze, and serve hot!
