Nothing beats homemade chocolate chip cookies, especially when you’re a child.

Mrs.CBB and I are cookie lovers, and if it’s homemade, we’ll eat it.

Her grandma was always baking something in the kitchen as a child.

She’d tried all of her grandma’s chocolate chip recipes, but there was only one that she loved.

Her grandma (nanny) was born in 1918 and passed at 99, so she knew a thing or two in the kitchen.

Today, we’re making Mrs. CBB’s Grandma’s Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Grandma was Mrs. CBB’s kitchen hero, and so was her mother, often baking pies and treats.

We got a box of her recipes, written recipes, and cut-outs from magazines.

She looked through the box that brought back memories for Mrs. CBB as she remembered the recipe books.

We found a Kellogg’s recipe book, Wok With Yan cookbook, Good Housekeeping Cakes, lots of magazine cut and paste, and written recipes.

However, what caught my attention was how life was before computers even existed.

There was no photocopying, email or text, so the recipes she saved are super old.

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies For The Holidays

Luckily, we have all the homemade cookie recipes she typically makes at Christmas.

Baking cookies during the holidays was grandma’s way of saying I love you.

Money was scarce while Grandma was growing up, and being in the kitchen with her mom was normal.

Homemade cooking in the early 1900s was how people ate, as there were no fast-food restaurants.

That lifestyle stays with you as the years go on and the world evolves.

Visiting Grandma For Christmas

It was still dark outside, but that didn’t stop Mrs. CBB from getting up to see Grandma.

She believes her love for baking started when she would often help make cookies.

Baking was something Mrs. CBB was interested in because she learned from her grandma.

You would find trays of homemade chocolate chip cookies, walnut cookies, chocolate chip walnut cookies, and gumdrop cookies.

At Christmas, her grandma taught her to make pecan snowballs, chocolate peanut butter balls, and festive coconut balls.

They are easy recipes where Mrs. CBB would help roll balls and set them on a baking tray.

Grandma would set out cookies to cool around the kitchen and on the dining table in the sunroom.

It was hard not to eat her grandma’s cookies because they were everywhere on baking day.

I laughed when Mrs. CBB told me that because it made me think of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

How To Make Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

I like all types of cookies, but Mrs. CBB wants a thick cookie filled with goodies such as nuts, raisins, oats, etc.

Once you make this recipe, you’ll notice they are similar to what I’ve just described and not crunchy and thin.

I refrigerated the chocolate chip cookie batter for 20 minutes before scooping them out.

I used an extra-large baking sheet lined with parchment paper for this recipe.

The goal is never to overbake the sides or bottom of the cookie as the texture changes.

Even a minute extra in the oven will make a difference, which happened to my first batch.

Another thing to keep in mind is that everyone has a different oven in their home.

Often, this is why I watch when I bake cookies and try not to leave the kitchen,

When the timer goes off, I take them out immediately and set them on a cooling rack.

Cookies will continue baking if you leave them on the tray you don’t want.

Set the oven temperature to 325 degrees and bake the cookies for 8 minutes.

I baked my first batch for 10 minutes, and the bottoms turned out too dark for my liking.

Again, you will see above the back of a cookie baked for 10 minutes a little too long.

They are still delicious, but if you want the perfect chocolate chip cookies, bake them for 8 minutes.

This cookie recipe will make approximately 40 cookies, which is fantastic if you need a large amount

The above photo of homemade chocolate chip cookies is perfectly baked.

I’ve eaten about 8 cookies, so the rest is now in a freezer bag until Christmas.

You’ll love that you only need one bowl to make these chocolate chip cookies.

I’ll eliminate them if I don’t waste time with kitchen gadgets.

I used a wooden spoon and spatula to incorporate the cookie batter.

When making cookies, I often try not to overmix the batter depending on the cookie.

I also used the mini chocolate chips, which are far better than the regular-sized chocolate chips.
