What I Love About This Bisquick Breakfast Casserole Recipe

  • It’s so simple to whip together
  • Gooey cheese, savory pork sausage, and flavorful veggies
  • Perfect for breakfast rush hour

Bisquick Breakfast Casserole Ingredients

  • Bulk Pork Sausage: You can use bulk sausage or a breakfast sausage like Jimmy Dean.
  • Onion: Use a yellow of white onion.
  • Red Bell Pepper: Use any color of bell pepper you like.
  • Frozen Hash Brown Potatoes: I use the shredded hash browns in this recipe
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese: I love the flavor sharp cheddar brings but feel free to switch it out. I also like this with pepper jack.
  • Bisquick: I use the original!
  • Milk: I like this with whole milk but low fat will work too.

Tips

  • Sautéing: I know it’s tempting to just kind of throw everything into the casserole dish – especially first thing in the morning. BUT it’s important to sauté your veggies while you’re cooking the meat.
    • Sautéing veggies bring out their sweeter more mellow flavors and combats bitterness for a balanced profile. Here’s an article that explains the science behind the “why”.
  • Add ons: One of the beautiful things about Bisquick breakfast recipes is that you can kind of use what’s on hand.
    • Add mushrooms, omit onions, swap the milk for cream and you’ll just create different flavor variations.
    • If you’re not a fan of pork sausage, try ham or make Bisquick breakfast casserole with bacon instead.I promise you’ll love it!

How Long Can You Keep This In The Fridge?

  • Once your family has had their fill of the yummy Bisquick breakfast casserole recipe, you can just cover it and pop it in the fridge where it will keep for up to 4 days.
  • Either cover it tightly with cling wrap or transfer it to an airtight container. Just be sure to let it cool completely first.

Can You Freeze This Bisquick Breakfast Casserole?

  • Oh yeah, you sure can!! You’ll want to give your Bisquick breakfast casserole recipe some chill time in the fridge before preparing it to go into the freezer. Leftover casseroles such as quiche, omelets, and this, can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months.
    • Just slow thaw in the fridge overnightand warm it up in the oven to preserve the texture.

Make Ahead Tips

Since this casserole recipe stays good for a few days it’s easy to prepare and heat in the oven just before serving. I like to keep one of these in the freezer so it’s handy.

What To Serve With Bisquick Breakfast Casserole?

This goes well with something slightly sweet, like yogurt or a bowl of fruit. A light and fresh strawberry spinach salad, strawberry scones, or blueberry coffee cake are perfect during spring and summer. And autumn spiced pumpkin scones or my amazing maple pecan scones during fall and winter.

If you plan to freeze, don’t cook cheese on too of casserole. When reheating in air fryer or microwave thaw, the cheese will be like a BRICK.

Hi, Marysue, I haven’t tried this in Instant Pot, but saute the ingredients in the instant pot. Then proceed with the other ingredients and put it on high for about 20 minutes then slowly release the valve for 10 minutes. These are just my calculations, you should need to make sure that it is well cooked. Let me know how it turns out! <3

Excellent recipe, easy to make and the family loved it. I made a few changes: added 1 green pepper, 8 eggs and only 1 cup of milk and 2 1/2 cups of cheese. I have a couple other breakfast casseroles we like, this one will definitely be made many more times.

Interesting recipe I want to try. However, I will not use boxed Bisquick, as the flour comes from GMO seed. When they decide to fix that, I’ll be happy to go back to using it. In the meantime, I make “Bisquick” from scratch.
