Annie Lennox refused to allow her album cover to be retouched (2024)

Singer Annie Lennox has revealed that she plans to age as naturally and as gracefully as possible, without the help of plastic surgery - which she says can often make people look as though they are wearing a 'frozen mask'.

However the 60-year-old Eurythmics chart-topper admitted to beauty guru Bobbi Brown during an interview forYahoo that she 'might' consider having some work done in the future - but only when doctors are able to perfect their techniques enough that nobody can spot any telltale signs that a procefure has been done.

'I go to America, where I see a lot of plastic surgery; I have no problem with plastic surgery, but the issue is, I don’t think it’s done very well because it kind of screams at you from hundreds of yards away,' she explained.

Au naturale: Annie Lennox wants to try and keep her appearance as natural as possible as she continues to age

Photoshop free: The 60-year-old refused to allow her album cover image to be retouched, insisting that she wanted to 'look as I am'

'It tells you: Wow, that woman’s had a lot of work, or that man’s had a lot of work. I find it disturbing.

'If I were going to do some work, which I mean, again, I haven’t done it yet, I might.

'But if I did, I wouldn’t want to end up with this frozen mask, which is Botox, which is surgery. I think, the day they get it right will be the day that you can’t really tell.'

For now, however, Annie is eager to embrace as natural an appearance as possible - and wants to encourage other women to do the same.

When it came to the images taken for her most-recently released album, Nostalgia, which came out in October last year, the mother-of-three refused to allow any retouching, insisting that she wanted to truly look like herself - rather than an airbrushed version.

Glory days: Annie, pictured performing with the Eurythmics in 1986, has always been known for her unique sense of style

She's still got it: The singer, pictured performing at a Stevie Wonder Grammys tribute last month, continues to wow the crowds every time she steps onto the stage

'The process of getting older doesn't have to be submission to becoming frail,' she said. 'But at the same time, we don’t have to feel desperate that we have to be young.'

Explaining that she wanted to just 'look as I am', Annie admitted that the photographer used all of the traditional tricks and techniques - such as lighting and positioning - in order to emphasize her natural beauty as much as possible.

But beyond that, nothing was done to the photos, particularly in terms of editing.

'We all have our little vanity, you know, it’s part of being human,' she added.

Posing for the cameras is certainly not a new concept for Annie - nor for her youngest daughter Tali, who spent a brief period of time working as a professional model, before moving on to explore her love of art.

Like mother, like daughter: Annie's youngest daughter Tali (pictured), now 22, is currently preparing to launch her first art exhibition

Explaining that her daughter, who is now 22, found the 'scrutiny' of the fashion industry difficult to deal with, particularly when it came to the pressures put on models to always ensure they are 'thin enough', Annie added that she couldn't be prouder of the career that Tali has now decided to pursue.

'I’m so proud of her, because she’s finding her passion,' she said. 'You just never know with your kids. You don’t know with their lives, you don’t know with your own life.'

Annie's own career is also continuing to flourish; her performance at this year's Grammys saw sales of her most recent album spike by 509 per cent, while her fans on Twitter couldn't wait to sing her praises.

She has admitted, however, that all of the social media attention isn't something she focuses on.

'I just did what I did and I never know how people are going to take it,' Annie told Vogueearlier this week. 'Sometimes people love you, sometimes they hate you.'
